This site has been established to support and celebrate the Tasmanian Surveying and Geospatial community.
The sector is championed by the Tasmanian Spatial Information Committee (TASSIC) and the Institute of Surveyors Tasmania (IST), with ongoing support made possible through the Surveyors’ Trust.
Tasmania has a proud and enduring tradition of bringing its geospatial community together. Regular events on the Tasmanian circuit β including the Tasmanian Surveying and Geospatial Conference and the State of GIS Conference β have long served as gathering points for professionals across the sector, with origins dating back to the 2000s.
Over the years, these events have been held in partnership with our national representative bodies, including the Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI), the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI), and more recently the Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA).
Alongside these connections to the national stage, Tasmania has built something distinctly its own, incluidng strong University of Tasmania (UTAS) surveying and geospatial research and education programs, dedicated local organisations in the Tasmanian Spatial Information Council (TASSIC) and the Institute of Surveyors Tasmanian (IST), and many individual leaders who have achieved recognition at both the national and international level.
Together, we form a strong and resilient Tasmanian Geospatial Sector β one that has consistently driven innovation, growth and opportunity for people, government and industry.
